Camping with children on Lake Garda

Family holidays outdoors

Camping with children on Lake Garda

Camping with children on Lake Garda is easiest when water, play areas, food and short distances come together on the campsite. The key is not the number of facilities but whether they suit the ages of your children and your family routine.

Camping with children: short distances make the biggest difference

Lake Garda is a classic destination for family camping, and for good reason. Many campsites combine access to the lake, pools, play areas, children programmes, dining and rental accommodation within one resort. With younger children in particular, this can make everyday holiday life much easier: breakfast, swimming, a midday break and evening entertainment can all work without repeated car journeys.

For this page we deliberately chose different campsites from our separate “Family campsites” overview, rather than simply reshuffling the same recommendations. La Rocca Camping Village near Bardolino has a particularly broad range of age-specific children facilities, water areas and extras such as an animal park and pump track. Camping Lido near Lazise combines a water park, mini club and direct lake access. Le Palme Lazise Family Collection is more compact and especially convenient for families who also plan to visit theme parks. Colombaia Village on the western shore combines the lake, a pool park, mini club and a more manageable resort scale.

The best choice depends heavily on the age of the children. For toddlers, shallow water areas, shade and short distances matter more than a large entertainment schedule. School-age children are more likely to value slides, sports and a mini club, while teenagers often prefer greater independence, sports areas and places to meet.

What matters

What really makes a good campsite with children

Four details are more useful than the longest possible list of family facilities.

01

Match the water facilities to the age

A large water park is not automatically ideal for every age. With small children, shallow pools, spray parks and easy-to-supervise areas are especially useful; older children may care more about slides, sports and larger pools.

02

Think about distances inside the campsite

At large holiday parks, the location of your accommodation can make a major difference. If the pool, beach, playground and restaurant are far apart, those walks add up quickly with young children. Check the area of your pitch or rental unit where possible.

03

Children programmes depend on season and age

Mini clubs, teen clubs, shows and sports programmes often run only during certain periods and for defined age groups. If entertainment or supervised activities are important to your plans, check current dates and age limits before travelling.

04

Quiet time is part of a family holiday

With younger children, a shaded place to retreat can be invaluable. A well-positioned pitch, covered terrace or air-conditioned mobile home can matter more in midsummer than one more leisure facility.

Our selection

Four campsites for families with children

These four recommendations suit different family styles, from extensive children and water facilities to a more compact campsite with shorter distances.

La Rocca Camping Village – campsite on Lake Garda near Bardolino

Bardolino

La Rocca Camping Village

Large four-star camping village directly on the lake near Bardolino with mini/junior club, teen club, animal park, pump track, playgrounds, heated pools and a dedicated spray park for children.

  • Mini/junior & teen clubs
  • Spray park & heated pools
  • Animal park & pump track
  • Directly on Lake Garda

Why this is our top recommendation

La Rocca Camping Village is our top recommendation for camping with children because it combines more than just a large pool area and offers facilities for different age groups. The Rocky mini/junior club has extensive indoor and outdoor space, with a parent-accompanied area for the youngest children and organised activities for older children. There is also a dedicated teen club, playgrounds, a pump track and an animal park where children can meet farm animals.

The water facilities are also well suited to families. Two large heated pools are available for families, together with a spray park designed specifically for children. At the same time, La Rocca sits directly on Lake Garda with more than 400 metres of beach. This makes it easy to combine time at the pool with time by the lake without leaving the campsite.

For parents, the position between Bardolino and Garda keeps local excursions within easy reach, while the campsite itself offers enough for complete holiday days. Families travelling with children of different ages will find an unusually broad range of options in one resort.

Especially suitable for: Families with children of different ages who want extensive children facilities, water areas and direct lake access in one resort.

Family time by the lake

Three experiences that work especially well when camping with children

Some of the best family moments are the ones that need neither extensive planning nor a long drive.

Children playing early in the morning at a Lake Garda campsite while their parents prepare breakfast

Slow morning

Start with the playground and have breakfast afterwards

When the playground or children area is only a few steps away, the holiday day can begin slowly. A short play session before breakfast gives children a chance to move while parents do not have to organise an excursion first thing in the morning.

Two kinds of water

Switch between the water park and Lake Garda

Campsites directly by the water give families real flexibility: if the pool becomes busy or the children want a change, simply head to the lake and return to the slides or children pool later.

Holiday evening

Get an ice cream together after the mini disco

A short evening walk to the campsite restaurant, gelateria or lakeside promenade can already feel like a small adventure for children. Afterwards the accommodation is close by and the day ends without another car journey.

Before booking

Practical preparation for camping with children

A few simple choices can make everyday family life on the campsite much easier.

01

Do not leave the accommodation location to chance

On large sites, staying near the children pool, playground or sanitary block can be useful depending on your family. At the same time, some distance from the stage and evening entertainment may suit families with an early bedtime.

02

Pack water shoes and sun protection

Many Lake Garda shorelines are pebbly or stony. Water shoes, a sun hat, high-factor sunscreen and drinking bottles are therefore family basics even when the campsite also has a pool.

03

Keep meals flexible

Restaurants and takeaway options are convenient, but a small food supply in the accommodation is useful with children. A campsite market or supermarket makes spontaneous breakfasts, snacks and simple dinners easier.

04

Do not fill every day with excursions

A good family campsite is a holiday destination in itself. After Gardaland, Verona or a long day in town, a full campsite day with pool, lake and playground can be far more relaxing than adding another attraction immediately.

Our tip

Choose for everyday family life, not just the attractions

With children, the campsite where daily life works smoothly often wins. Age-appropriate water facilities, a good playground, reliable food options and short distances usually matter more than ten additional activities. Choosing the position of your accommodation within the site carefully can make the whole Lake Garda holiday noticeably more relaxed.
