From Monte Baldo to Lazise
Eastern Lake Garda is not one uniform holiday region. In the north around Malcesine and Brenzone, the slopes of Monte Baldo rise close to the water. Campsites are often smaller, more terraced and more strongly shaped by mountains, water sports and scenery. Farther south around Bardolino and Lazise, the shoreline opens out and camping resorts become larger, with pools, waterparks, entertainment and theme parks playing a much bigger role.
This range is exactly what makes the eastern shore attractive for campers. You can choose a nature-oriented campsite near Malcesine, explore Brenzone’s small waterfront villages, combine the lake with wine country around Bardolino or stay near Lazise in a large family campsite only a short distance from Gardaland.

Eastern shore
Between mountain scenery and large family resorts, the character of the region changes noticeably within a relatively short distance.
Around Malcesine and Brenzone, Monte Baldo rises close to the lake. Towards Bardolino and Lazise, the shoreline opens out, the towns become larger and the choice of holiday resorts, pools and family attractions increases considerably.
The eastern shore makes very different holiday days possible: Monte Baldo and hiking in the north, small waterfront villages around Brenzone, wine and promenades near Bardolino, and major attractions around Lazise.
From small terraced nature camping near Malcesine to large camping villages with waterparks and extensive facilities, the eastern shore covers almost every style of Lake Garda camping.

Brenzone is the quieter camping side of the eastern shore: many small villages, a nine-kilometre waterfront path, olive groves and Monte Baldo immediately behind the lake. Smaller campsites and agricamping properties dominate instead of large holiday resorts.

High above the lake
Within a short time, the lakeshore gives way to a completely different mountain landscape. At the top of Monte Baldo, a swimming day can turn into a mountain day with broad views across Lake Garda and plenty of walking and hiking options.
Slow travel
Brenzone is made up of several small lakeside settlements and harbours. The flat waterfront route links many of them and works particularly well for an easy bike ride with café, swimming or ice-cream stops along the way.
Evening by the water
In the southern part of the eastern shore, promenades, historic centres, restaurants and gelaterias sit close together. It is easy to finish a camping day with an evening walk by the water and a visit to one of the towns.

Your exact base, summer traffic and the very different holiday styles between north and south should be clear before booking.
There are major landscape and holiday-style differences between Malcesine and Lazise. Malcesine and Brenzone are stronger for mountains and a quieter northern feel, while Bardolino and Lazise offer larger resorts, family facilities and easier access to theme parks.
Many campsites sit directly along the eastern lakeside road. Summer traffic can increase journey times considerably, so a base with useful walking, cycling or boat connections can make a real difference.
The Malcesine cable car is one of Lake Garda's best-known attractions and can be busy. An early start generally makes parking, access and waiting times easier to manage.
Gardaland, other attractions and large camping resorts sit close together in the southern part of the eastern shore. Travellers looking mainly for quiet surroundings and small villages should factor this into their campsite choice.
Our conclusion
Travellers who want choice will find an especially broad range on the eastern shore. Malcesine and Brenzone are more strongly associated with scenery, mountains and smaller properties; Bardolino and Lazise with promenades, larger resorts, family facilities and theme parks. The key question is therefore not whether the eastern shore suits you, but which part of it does.
