Camping with children on Lake Garda: choosing the right site matters

Lake Garda is particularly versatile for families: swimming, ice cream, boat trips, theme parks and an easy return to the campsite in the evening. The key is choosing a site that suits the age of your children and the pace of holiday you want. Younger children often benefit most from short distances, shallow water areas and playgrounds, while older children may value slides, sports, entertainment and more independence around the campsite.

Large family campsites often provide extensive infrastructure on site, from water parks and restaurants to supermarkets, kids clubs and evening entertainment. That makes holidays easy to organise, although it also means a livelier atmosphere during peak season. Smaller resorts can feel more relaxed, but usually offer fewer pools and entertainment options.

For this page we selected four campsites that suit different family styles: Camping Bella Italia in Peschiera del Garda, Piani di Clodia near Lazise, Weekend Glamping Resort and Camping Europa Silvella near San Felice del Benaco.

Camping Bella Italia – campsite on Lake Garda near Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera del Garda · 5 stars

Camping Bella Italia

This large five-star family campsite in Peschiera combines a lakeside setting with an extensive water park, slides, kids club, sports, dining and a full entertainment programme.

  • Water park & slides
  • Kids club & entertainment
  • Directly on the lake

Why this is our top recommendation

Camping Bella Italia is our top recommendation for families who want plenty of holiday entertainment directly on the campsite. The large resort sits on Lake Garda near Peschiera del Garda and combines access to the lake with an extensive water park, including several pools, water play areas and slides for different age groups. A kids club, sports facilities, daytime and evening entertainment and several dining options add to the choice.

Its main strength for families is variety: a pool day, time by the lake and evening entertainment can all be combined without much planning. At the same time, the size of the resort is worth considering. If short walking distances matter, check not only the accommodation type but also its location within the site. The Peschiera setting is also especially convenient when Gardaland or other trips around south-eastern Lake Garda are part of the family itinerary.

Especially suitable for: Families looking for a large holiday resort with extensive water, leisure and entertainment facilities.

Choosing guide

What families should check before choosing a campsite

Not every family campsite suits every family. Children’s ages, pools, location and the level of activity you want often matter more than the star rating alone.

01

Children’s ages matter more than the star rating

For toddlers, an easy-to-reach playground, shallow pools, shade and short distances are especially useful. School-age children and teenagers are more likely to value slides, sports facilities, entertainment and areas they can use with a little more independence.

02

A water park and Lake Garda are two different advantages

A large pool complex can be invaluable on hot days, but it does not automatically replace easy access to the lake. Equally, a campsite directly on the water is not necessarily the best option for young children. Compare the pools, beach and lake distance separately.

03

Pitch or mobile home with children?

A pitch provides the classic camping experience and plenty of outdoor time. A mobile home can make life with younger children easier thanks to a kitchen, private bathroom, separate sleeping areas and air conditioning. On large resorts, also check where your chosen accommodation category is located.

04

Factor Gardaland and day trips into the location

If Gardaland or other theme parks are an important part of the holiday, Lazise and Peschiera offer much shorter journeys than the western shore. If the campsite itself is meant to provide most of the entertainment, a quieter western-shore location can be a better fit.

Family time

Three experiences that work well with a family camping holiday

Beyond the pools and kids club, use the campsite as a base for shared experiences around Lake Garda.

Theme park

A family day at Gardaland

Gardaland is particularly easy to reach from campsites around Peschiera and Lazise. For families planning a definite theme-park day, the campsite location can therefore make a significant difference.

On the water

Take a boat to another Lake Garda town

A boat trip combines transport with an experience. Children get to see the lake from the water while parents can plan a town visit without worrying about parking, especially when the campsite has convenient access to a ferry port.

Camping evening

Mini-disco, a show and ice cream to end the day

At many large family campsites, the programme continues after the pools close. Entertainment, mini-disco and evening shows offer an easy end to the day without the family having to leave the campsite again.

Find your campsite

Choose family camping to match your children’s ages

For younger children, manageable distances, play areas and child-friendly pools can matter more than maximum action. With school-age children or teenagers, slides, sports, entertainment and proximity to theme parks may become more important. Compare facilities and location with what your family will actually use.
