Camping base

Camping in Arco

Arco is the camping base for travellers who mainly want to experience northern Lake Garda actively. Climbing cliffs, the Sarca cycle route, old town and castle are close together while the lake remains easy to reach.

Active base in the Sarca Valley

Why Arco is a distinct camping choice

Arco lies several kilometres north of Lake Garda and therefore feels different from Riva or Torbole. Instead of immediate beach access, rock faces, the Sarca Valley, bicycles, climbers and the historic town centre shape the rhythm of the day. Travellers who see Lake Garda mainly as a beach destination may prefer to stay closer to the water. Those who want to combine camping with climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking or relaxed bike rides will find Arco one of the strongest bases in the entire region.

The camping landscape is surprisingly varied. Camping Zoo and Camping Arco in Prabi sit by the Sarca below striking rock faces. Agrisalus, AB&C and ArcoSole add several very small camping and agricamping properties. Administratively, Arco Lido on Lake Garda also belongs to the municipality, including Camping Bellavista and Camping Maroadi.

For our recommendation block we deliberately use four properties that can be identified as the same accommodation on Booking.com: Camping Zoo as the most versatile traditional campsite, plus Camping Agrisalus, AB&C Arco Bed And Camping and Agritur ArcoSole B&B Camping as smaller alternatives.

Why Arco

Four reasons to camp in Arco

Arco is at its best when the campsite is a base for activities and excursions rather than the entire holiday programme.

01

Arco is the north's strongest base for active holidays

Climbing, mountain biking, road cycling and hiking shape the town more strongly than classic beach holidays. The rock faces around Arco and the Sarca Valley begin almost at the doorstep.

02

Lake Garda is still easy to reach

Arco is not directly on the lake, but the Sarca Valley connects it well with Torbole and Riva. With a bicycle or e-bike, the lake can easily be part of the day without moving the car for every trip.

03

Small camping properties complement the larger sites

Alongside traditional campsites, Arco has an unusually good selection of small agricamping and camping properties. This is appealing for travellers who prefer compact settings to large holiday resorts.

04

The old town and castle give Arco its own identity

Arco is more than an outdoor base. Its historic centre, castle rock and panoramic paths make it easy to combine an active camping holiday with cafés, town walks and viewpoints.

Our selection

1 top pick and 3 secondary picks in Arco

Four different camping properties, from a larger active campsite by the Sarca to small agricamping sites with pools.

Camping Zoo – Lake Garda campsite near Arco

Arco

Camping Zoo

Three-star campsite by the Sarca in Prabi with pools, sauna, whirlpool, playground and a particularly strong location for climbing, cycling and hiking.

  • By the Sarca in Prabi
  • Pools & sauna
  • Climbing and cycling base
  • Family friendly

Why this is our top recommendation

Camping Zoo is our most versatile Arco recommendation because it reflects the character of the town especially well. The campsite sits by the Sarca below the rock landscape of Prabi and combines traditional camping with facilities that are welcome after an active day. Pools, sauna and whirlpool provide relaxation, while a playground, dining and other services make the site practical for families too.

The key advantage is the location: travellers who come to Arco for climbing, mountain biking, hiking or cycling start directly in the outdoor landscape. Lake Garda is not beside the pitch, but the Sarca Valley makes it easy to include the lake in daily excursions.

Especially suitable for: Active couples and families, climbers, mountain bikers and campers who value an outdoor location more than immediate lake access.

Experience Arco

Three experiences between castle, rock and the Sarca

Arco is especially strong when you use the campsite as a starting point rather than as a complete resort programme.

View from Arco Castle across Arco and the Sarca Valley

Above the old town

Walk up to Arco Castle

The path to the castle ruins is one of the easiest ways to experience Arco from above. Between olive trees, rock and the remains of the fortress, views open across the town and far into the Sarca Valley.

Rock & movement

Experience the climbing landscape around Colodri

Arco is internationally associated with climbing. Even travellers who do not climb themselves can experience a landscape around Colodri, Prabi and the Sarca cliffs where outdoor sport is part of everyday life.

Cyclists on the Sarca cycle route between Arco and Torbole

Cycle to the lake

Follow the Sarca towards Torbole

Arco is an excellent place to leave the campsite by bike. The route follows the Sarca Valley towards Lake Garda, linking mountain scenery and the river landscape with the lively waterfront around Torbole.

Plan well

What to consider when camping in Arco

The exact position within the large municipal area makes a significant difference.

01

Choose Arco deliberately if the lake is not priority number one

The key question is simple: do you want to wake up directly by the water, or are cycling, climbing and hiking more important? Riva and Torbole are stronger for immediate lake access; Arco is often the better inland active base.

02

Bring a bicycle or e-bike

The Sarca Valley connection makes bicycles particularly useful in Arco. You can reach the old town as well as Torbole and Riva without moving the motorhome or car for every local trip.

03

Reserve small agricamping sites early

Agrisalus, AB&C and ArcoSole have only a limited number of pitches. During popular climbing, cycling and holiday periods, these small properties can fill much earlier than large campsites.

04

Distinguish between Prabi and Arco Lido

Some campsites are in the Prabi area by the Sarca and close to climbing cliffs, while others are administratively in Arco but sit at Arco Lido directly on Lake Garda. The town name alone therefore does not describe the actual lakeside location.

Our conclusion

Arco is the camping base for active Lake Garda days

Other towns are simpler for immediate beach camping. But if you want to start the morning on a bicycle, reach climbing areas quickly, stroll through the old town and still visit Lake Garda regularly, Arco offers an unusually versatile combination. The broad range from traditional campsites to very small agricamping properties is particularly appealing.
