Only around 15 kilometres from Riva del Garda, Lake Ledro offers a much quieter camping world: turquoise water, forested mountains, small villages and campsites directly on the lake or in the green Ledro Valley.
Quieter than Lake Garda
Ledro is part of Garda Trentino but feels very different from Riva, Torbole or Arco. Lake Ledro sits at around 655 metres above sea level among forested mountains and, with a circumference of roughly ten kilometres, is far more compact than Lake Garda. Large promenades and extensive holiday resorts are less important here; beaches, woodland, cycling and hiking routes and small villages such as Pieve and Molina shape the holiday instead.
For campers, the unusually broad choice within a small area is especially attractive. Family Wellness Camping al Sole is a large and very well-equipped family campsite directly on the lake. Camping Al Lago combines a traditional lakeside setting with Pieve, dining and active facilities. BEST LEDRO CAMPING deliberately stays small with only around 25 pitches. Camping Casavecchia sits farther west in the valley and works as a quiet base with a pool and restaurant.
Camping Azzurro adds another larger traditional campsite directly on the water in Pieve. Ledro can therefore work very differently for families, tent campers, motorhomes and active travellers.
Why Ledro
Ledro is especially attractive for travellers who want to combine water and mountains with less activity than directly on Lake Garda.
The mountain lake sits at around 655 metres above sea level in a green valley. Beaches, small villages and campsites are spread around a much more compact lake – ideal when nature and calm matter more than large promenades and holiday resorts.
Around Lake Ledro, swimming spots, waterfront routes and trips into the surrounding mountains are easy to combine. Many campsites are directly on the water or only a short walk away.
The choice ranges from a large family and wellness campsite with pools to a small property with only 25 pitches. Ledro therefore works for families, couples, tent campers and travellers who deliberately prefer smaller sites.
Pieve di Ledro is only around 15 kilometres from Riva del Garda. Ledro is therefore not a substitute for Lake Garda, but a quieter camping base within the same Garda Trentino holiday area.

Ledro’s appeal comes from short distances between water, nature and an unusual amount of history.
Early by the water
The lake has a circumference of around ten kilometres. Early in the day, its turquoise water, forests and mountain scenery are especially peaceful, with easy opportunities for a swim or breakfast stop in one of the small villages.
History by the lake
On the eastern shore, the pile-dwelling museum tells the story of a Bronze Age settlement. The site forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps and provides an unusual contrast to a classic swimming day.
Evening atmosphere
The beach near Molina is an excellent place for a late swim. As daytime visitors leave, Lake Ledro becomes especially calm – exactly the character that distinguishes this camping area from Lake Garda.
Plan well
Altitude, exact lakeside position and campsite size make a significant difference here.
Lake Ledro sits considerably higher than Lake Garda. Even after warm summer days, evenings can feel cooler, so tent campers and shoulder-season travellers should bring warmer clothing and suitable sleeping equipment.
Al Sole, Al Lago and Best Ledro are directly on the lake. Casavecchia is farther west in Tiarno di Sopra and works more as a quiet base for nature and active days.
Riva is only around 15 kilometres from Pieve, but the route runs through the mountain landscape of the Ledro Valley. Travellers who want to be on Lake Garda every day are better based in Riva; Ledro works very well for occasional trips.
Best Ledro Camping has only around 25 pitches and Casavecchia around 46. During school holidays and popular summer weekends, availability can therefore become limited more quickly than at large Lake Garda resorts.
Our conclusion
Riva represents Lake Garda and town life, while Arco is about outdoor sport and rock. Ledro complements the north with a smaller mountain lake and a much quieter camping atmosphere. Travellers who want a large waterfront town every evening may prefer Lake Garda itself; for swimming, cycling, hiking and relaxed days in a compact natural region, Lake Ledro is a very strong alternative.
