Camping in Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera is one of Lake Garda’s most practical camping bases: directly on the water, with a historic fortified town, railway station, cycle routes and very short access to Gardaland.

Fortified town on the southern lake

Why Peschiera is particularly practical for camping holidays

Peschiera del Garda combines features that rarely come together so compactly around the lake. The historic town sits within a Venetian defensive system of bastions, canals and bridges. At the same time, there is a railway station, waterfront routes, the Mincio cycle path and a large choice of campsites on both sides of the centre.

For families, proximity to Gardaland is another major advantage. Yet Peschiera should not be treated only as a theme-park base: the harbour, old town and fortifications are destinations in their own right, while rail connections make car-free trips to Verona or Brescia realistic.

Our four recommendations deliberately cover different campsite scales. Camping Bella Italia is the major family classic with an aquapark. Campeggio del Garda combines a large lakeside property with a practical location east of the old town. Camping Village Butterfly is considerably more compact and especially convenient for the railway station. Camping Bergamini offers a small modern and quieter alternative west of the centre.

Why Peschiera

Four reasons to camp in Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera is especially strong when the campsite, town, excursions and transport connections all matter.

01

Old town and campsite are easy to connect without a car

Several campsites sit along the waterfront west or east of the fortified town. Promenades and cycle routes often make the harbour, canals and centre reachable on foot or by bicycle.

02

Peschiera is the most practical base for Gardaland

The theme park lies only a few kilometres east of town. At the same time, Peschiera remains a destination in its own right with an old town, waterfront and strong transport connections.

03

The railway station considerably expands your range

Peschiera lies on the Verona–Brescia–Milan rail corridor. Day trips to Verona or Brescia can therefore work well while the motorhome or car remains at the campsite.

04

The fortress landscape is unique on Lake Garda

Peschiera’s star-shaped Venetian fortifications, canals and bridges distinguish it from classic lakeside towns. Part of the defensive system forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage property.

Our selection

1 top pick and 3 secondary picks in Peschiera

From a large family resort to a small eco campsite, the four recommendations cover very different camping styles.

Camping Bella Italia – campsite on Lake Garda near Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera del Garda

Camping Bella Italia

Five-star family campsite directly on Lake Garda with a large aquapark, five pools, slides and very extensive facilities.

  • Directly on Lake Garda
  • 5 pools & aquapark
  • 5 stars
  • Family & Gardaland

Why this is our top recommendation

Camping Bella Italia is our top recommendation for Peschiera because it particularly suits families who want to combine Lake Garda with a large holiday resort. The property sits directly on the water west of the centre and offers traditional camping pitches alongside a broad range of rental accommodation.

The defining feature is the large aquapark with five pools, water games and slides. Sports, children’s facilities, dining and shopping add to the offer. At the same time, Peschiera remains accessible along the waterfront, so the campsite does not function only as an enclosed resort. For families combining pool days, the lake, old town and Gardaland, Bella Italia is therefore the most versatile Peschiera base.

Especially suitable for: Families and campers looking for a large, very well-equipped holiday campsite directly on the lake.

Experience Peschiera

Three experiences between fortress, Mincio and waterfront

The town works especially well without a car – on foot through the fortifications, by bicycle along the river and back to the campsite via the promenade.

Evening walk along the Venetian fortress walls and canals of Peschiera del Garda

Between water and walls

Walk around the fortress and canals in the early evening

A circuit along the bastions, bridges and canals shows Peschiera’s unusual urban structure particularly well. In the early evening, the historic setting combines with the harbour, restaurants and soft light over Lake Garda.

Cyclists on the flat Mincio cycle route south of Peschiera del Garda

Cycle inland

Follow the Mincio away from Lake Garda

The flat landscape along the Mincio begins directly around Peschiera. A ride beside the river provides a strong contrast to the lakeshore and works well for a half- or full-day active excursion without mountain climbs.

Camping travellers walking along the waterfront promenade towards Peschiera del Garda old town

Car-free by the lake

Walk from the campsite along the promenade into the old town

Especially from campsites on the western and eastern waterfront, the camping day can easily continue on foot. An ice cream by the harbour, dinner beside the canals or a final walk through the fortress needs no parking search.

Plan well

What to consider when camping in Peschiera

The exact side of town and the position within a large campsite influence daily routines more than the map initially suggests.

01

Distinguish the western and eastern sides when choosing a campsite

Bella Italia and Bergamini are west of the centre, while Butterfly and Campeggio del Garda are east of it. For Gardaland, the station, old town or travel towards Sirmione, this can make a noticeable difference in daily routines.

02

Do not automatically choose the largest campsite for Gardaland

If the theme park is planned for only one or two days, town access and a good waterfront route may matter more than the absolute shortest park distance. For several park days, the priority changes.

03

At large resorts, check the pitch zone

Camping Bella Italia and Campeggio del Garda are large properties. Depending on the pitch, distances to pools, beach, exits or sanitary blocks can vary considerably, so position within the campsite matters.

04

Use rail and bicycles as real transport options

Peschiera is one of the few Lake Garda towns where rail, cycle routes and waterfront promenades come together. This is especially useful in peak season when short car trips can consume unnecessary time.

Our conclusion

Peschiera is one of Lake Garda’s easiest camping bases

For families, first-time visitors and campers who want to combine many excursions without long drives, Peschiera is particularly strong. Large family resorts sit alongside more compact campsites, while the fortified town, railway station, cycling routes and Gardaland create a combination found nowhere else on the lake in quite the same form.
